Hola,
Les voy a dar algunos datos basicos para viajar a Chile y Valparaiso si son del extranjero.

1.- Visa y/o pasaporte



El documento internacional de viajes es el Pasaporte. De cualquier manera, se tienen convenios con los siguientes paises, con los cuales no es necesario el pasaporte, solamente el documento de identificacion nacional:

• Argentina
• Brasil
• Colombia
• Paraguay
• Uruguay
• Peru.

Todo el resto de los paises del mundo necesitan pasaporte para ingresar al Pais. Solamente si se requiere Trabajar o Estudiar en Chile se nevesita Visa, que deben tramitar con el consulado respectivo.

2.- Dinero:
Chile no requiere que se demuestre poder de compra para ingresar al Pais.
Tipo de Cambio a Feb-06 : 1 USD = 525 CLP (Peso Chileno)
La Red de Cajeros Automaticos permite las redes Maestro y Cirrus al mismo tiempo, por lo que sacar dinero de sus tarjetas de crédito es simple.
La gran mayoria de las tiendas y restoranes aceptan Tarjeta de Credito. Solo unos pocos aceptan moneda extranjera (USD y EUR principalmente). Es conveniente venir con USD y cambiarlos localmente antes que traer CLP.

3.- Clima:
Al encontrarse en el hemisferio sur, Chile es Primavera/Verano durante los meses de Octubre a Marzo e Otoño/Invierno de Abril a Agosto.
En Valparaiso las temperaturas medias son las siguientes :

• Otoño : 6°C/43°F - 14°C/57°F.
• Invierno : 6X°C/43°F - 12°C/54°F.
• Primavera : 10°C/50°F - 18°C/64°F.
• Verano : 16°C/61°F - 24°C/75°F.

Como pueden ver, casi cualquier epoca del año es interesante para visitar Valparaiso, dado que no son temperaturas extremas.

4.- Movilizacion.
Si vienen sin un tour preparado, el pasaje desde Santiago a Valparaiso vale USD 8 aprox. Dentro de Valparaiso y Viña hay buses para todos lados, donde el pasaje dentro de valparaiso o dentro de Viña del Mar vale USD 0.40. Entre ambas ciudades, el pasaje vale USD 0.70. Ahora, pueden arrendar un vehiculo. Necesitan tener Licencia de conducir Internacional. Un arriendo de un vehiculo tiene un valor app de:

• City Car (Ej.: Chevrolet Corsa) : Temp. Baja : USD 44/USD 260 (Dia/Semana) - Temp. Alta: USD 54/USD 320 (Dia/Semana)
• Sedan (Ej.: Toyota Yaris) : Temp. Baja : USD 56/USD 340 (Dia/Semana) - Temp. Alta: USD 65/USD 390 (Dia/Semana)
• Todo Terreno (Ej.: Nissan D-21) : Temp. Baja : USD 58/USD 350 (Dia/Semana) - Temp. Alta: USD 67/USD 400 (Dia/Semana)

Todas las tarifas incluyen Tarifa Base + Seguro + Impuesto. Temporada Alta: 01-Nov al 15-Mar

5.- Comidas.
Aqui voy a ser bien general en la explicacion, dado que luego pondre posts especificos de restoranes en la zona. En Chile se acostumbra a tener un desayuno pequeño, un almuerzo grande, una onces pequeñas y una cena en la tarde. Un almuerzo o cena normales en un restoran normal cuesta USD 5 por persona. Eso incluye entrada, plato de fondo, postre y bebidas. Un restoran mas caro puede llegar a unos USD 20 por persona, incluyendo Entrada, plato de fondo, postre y bebida o vino. Un restoran muy caro puede llegar a los USD 30.

6.- Alojamiento
De la misma manera que anteriormente, no sere muy especifico, pues se haran posts de hoteles especificos. De cualquier manera, se puede alojar muy barato (USD 60), mediano (USD 140) o muy caro (USD 250) por noche en base habitacion doble con buffet incluido en todos los casos. Como mencionado, luego sere mas especifico en los posts de hoteles.

Here I'm goin to give you some basic data to visit Valparaiso (or Chile in general) if you are foreigners.

1.- Visa and/or passport

The International travel document is the passport. Anyway, we have agreements with the following countries where the passport is not needed, just the National ID Card:

• Argentina
• Brasil
• Colombia
• Paraguay
• Uruguay
• Peru.

2.- Dinero:
Chile does not require you to demonstrate you have money to enter the country.
Rate of Exchange (Feb-06) : 1 USD = 525 CLP (Chilean Peso)
The ATM network allows Maestro and Cirrus nets at the same time, so it is easy to get money from they via your credir cards.
Almost all the big stores and restaurants allows credit cards. Just some of them allows foreign currencies (EUR and USD mainly). It is convenient to arrive with USD or EUR and change them here than bring CLP (you will get a good price !!).

3.- Wheather:
Beigh in the south hemisphere, means that Spring/Summer is from October to March and Autumn/Winter is from April to August.
In Valparaiso, the average temperatures are:

• Autumn : 6°C/43°F - 14°C/57°F.
• Winter : 6X°C/43°F - 12°C/54°F.
• Spring : 10°C/50°F - 18°C/64°F.
• Summer : 16°C/61°F - 24°C/75°F.

As you can see, almost every season is good to visit Valparaiso, because they are not extreme temperatures.

4.- Moving in Valparaiso.
If you came without a prepared tour, the bus ticket from Santiago to Valparaiso costs USD 8 app. Within Valparaiso and Viña there are buses to go everywhere. The bust ticket inside Valparaiso or inside Viña costs USD 0.40. Between both cities costs USD 0.70. Another option is to rent a vehicle. You need to have international driver license. Here I will be very general in the explanations, because I will make specific post for specific restaurants later. in Chile is used to have a small breakfast, a big lunch, a small tea in the mid-afternoon and a dinner at night. A Normal lunch or dinner in a normal restaurant costs USD 5 per person. This includes starter, main plate, dessert and a soda. A more expensive restaurant could reach USD 20 per person, including the same (soda can be wine also). A Very expensive and fancy restaurant can reach USD 30 per person.

6.- Staying
As before, I'll not be specific, because specific posts will be made for hotels. Aniway, you can stay for cheap (USD 60), medium (USD 140) or expensive (USD 250 or more) per night, double room including breakfast bouffet in all cases.

Vamos comentando entonces...

Valparaíso ante todo es puerto. Por lo tanto, su historia esta ligada intimamente al mar y a la historia del mar. En la antiguedad sus mejores tiempos fueron cuando no existia el canal de Panama y el trafico comercial pacifico/atlántico debia hacerse por el Cabo de Hornos, lo cual hacia que el primer puerto de llegada al pacífico era Valparaíso. Casi todos los adelantos de época llegaron primero a Valparaíso... el primer teléfono, la primera televisión, etc.

Valparaíso tambien es mar y cerro, barcos y botes, pescadores y pescados, personas y personajes, mitos y leyendas, juventud y vejez, musica y silencio... podria decirse que es muchas cosas a la vez.

Ésta cuidad es un anfiteatro natural al mar. Su belleza y antiguedad llevaron a la UNESCO a declararla Patrimonio de la Humanidad, lo cual llena de orgullo a los porteños, quienes DEBEMOS cuidar esta cuidad para nuestros descendientes y visitantes.

Valparaíso es mucho mas antigua que el mismo Chile. Tiene casi 470 años (no recuerdo exactamente ahora la fecha de fundacion, prometo buscarla...) pero poco queda de esa época. De cualquier manera, aun hay un par de antiquisimos lugares para visitar. Hoy es una hermosa cuidad que aun tiene el casco historico, ademas de mucha cultura, buenos restoranes, paseos miradores, ascensores, cafés, pubs e interesantes lugares para ver y visitar.

First of all, Valparaíso is port. So, it's history is very close to the sea and it's history. In the old times, the best times were when there was no Panama chanel, so all the commercial pacific/atlantic traffic was made via the Cape Horn, and the first arrival port into the pacific ocean was Valparaiso. Almost every new technology od that time arrive first into Valparaíso... the fist Telephone, the first Television, etc...

Valparaiso is also sea and hills, boats and vessels, fishes and fishermen, people and characters, miths and legends, youth and oldness, music and silence... you could say is many things at the same time.

This city is a natural theater looking to the sea. It's oldness and beauty makes the Unesco to declare it Humanity Patrimony, filling with pride the "porteños" heart ("Porteños is the name of the people who lives in Valparaiso). We MUST take care of our city for our descendants and visitors.

Valparaíso is older than Chile itself. It is almost 470 yeats old (I do not remenber exactly the foundation date, I promess to look after it...) but there is not so much from that time. However there is a couple of very old places to visit. Today is a beautiful city that try to preserve its oldness, also there is a lot of culture, good restaurants, seeing walkways, elevators, cafés, pubs and interesting places to see and visit.
