Vamos comentando entonces...

Valparaíso ante todo es puerto. Por lo tanto, su historia esta ligada intimamente al mar y a la historia del mar. En la antiguedad sus mejores tiempos fueron cuando no existia el canal de Panama y el trafico comercial pacifico/atlántico debia hacerse por el Cabo de Hornos, lo cual hacia que el primer puerto de llegada al pacífico era Valparaíso. Casi todos los adelantos de época llegaron primero a Valparaíso... el primer teléfono, la primera televisión, etc.

Valparaíso tambien es mar y cerro, barcos y botes, pescadores y pescados, personas y personajes, mitos y leyendas, juventud y vejez, musica y silencio... podria decirse que es muchas cosas a la vez.

Ésta cuidad es un anfiteatro natural al mar. Su belleza y antiguedad llevaron a la UNESCO a declararla Patrimonio de la Humanidad, lo cual llena de orgullo a los porteños, quienes DEBEMOS cuidar esta cuidad para nuestros descendientes y visitantes.

Valparaíso es mucho mas antigua que el mismo Chile. Tiene casi 470 años (no recuerdo exactamente ahora la fecha de fundacion, prometo buscarla...) pero poco queda de esa época. De cualquier manera, aun hay un par de antiquisimos lugares para visitar. Hoy es una hermosa cuidad que aun tiene el casco historico, ademas de mucha cultura, buenos restoranes, paseos miradores, ascensores, cafés, pubs e interesantes lugares para ver y visitar.

Let's comment...

First of all, Valparaíso is port. So, it's history is very close to the sea and it's history. In the old times, the best times were when there was no Panama chanel, so all the commercial pacific/atlantic traffic was made via the Cape Horn, and the first arrival port into the pacific ocean was Valparaiso. Almost every new technology od that time arrive first into Valparaíso... the fist Telephone, the first Television, etc...

Valparaiso is also sea and hills, boats and vessels, fishes and fishermen, people and characters, miths and legends, youth and oldness, music and silence... you could say is many things at the same time.

This city is a natural theater looking to the sea. It's oldness and beauty makes the Unesco to declare it Humanity Patrimony, filling with pride the "porteños" heart ("Porteños is the name of the people who lives in Valparaiso). We MUST take care of our city for our descendants and visitors.

Valparaíso is older than Chile itself. It is almost 470 yeats old (I do not remenber exactly the foundation date, I promess to look after it...) but there is not so much from that time. However there is a couple of very old places to visit. Today is a beautiful city that try to preserve its oldness, also there is a lot of culture, good restaurants, seeing walkways, elevators, cafés, pubs and interesting places to see and visit.
